Week 3
The past weeks we did a lot of things that I have found very helpful in my writing. Between reading and annotating an author’s work, writing short vignettes, creating an outline for the essay, hearing and discussing each other’s work all the way to writing a draft and peer reviewing it in class. If I had to single out one or two things that helped the most to improve my writing process, I would say it was creating an outline for the essay and the peer review we did in class the 3rd week.
Creating that outline made it so much easier for me to start writing a draft for my essay. It was like the outline was the foundation and I was slowly building my essay of off that instead of just writing every idea that came up in my head. Peer review was the most beneficial activity we have done so far though. When writing an essay, I tend to focus on what I did good instead of the flaws so having my peers read it, annotate and comment on it gave me a fresh perspective on what I need to improve on my writing.
The long classes are very helpful because if there is any confusion we can ask the teacher there and then to clarify for us. Instead of having an hour we get three to dive deep into the lesson. But in case that we are confused after the class we can always email the teacher for help but also the group chat I created for the class has come very handy. It is a great way to communicate with each other and help understand anything we need help with, remind each other about work that’s sue etc.
